Back to Environment Case Studies
The Green Team from Johnson Matthey’s West Deptford site in the US.
Sustainability efforts are alive and well at Johnson Matthey’s West Deptford site in the US, thanks to the hard work of a diversified group of employees – the ‘Green Team’. Since its inception, the team has compiled 32 ideas for sustainability initiatives and several are currently underway.
Recent successes include the implementation of paperless meetings in the Operations Department which will bring annual savings of over 50 reams and the installation of timers on over 60 laboratory hot plates resulting in approximately $40,000 of energy savings per year.
Other projects, completed or in progress, include the installation of strategic lighting sensors in the workplace to reduce energy consumption, processing chemicals containing waste to produce a saleable waste stream and initiatives to recycle caustic and ignition waste heat.
The work of the Green Team is already having an impact on the sustainability footprint of the site and the team is working towards further sustainable initiatives in the future.
