Switching to recycled paper cups – just one of the initiatives introduced by the Sustainability Team.

The launch of Sustainability 2017 prompted employees at Johnson Matthey’s registered office in Hatton Garden, London, to take a look at how they could be more sustainable. Hatton Garden is purely an administrative office with around 50 people.

Keen to play its part, the office put together a ‘Sustainability Team’ tasked with looking at areas and ways in which sustainability could be incorporated. A number of the team’s ideas have already been introduced, such as setting printers to default to double-sided printing, the use of recycled paper throughout the office and a switch to recycled cups for refreshments. Plans are also in place to use electronic fax systems where possible. The team is also benchmarking the office’s current energy and resource use to allow progress to be tracked and targets to be set in the future.

“Even though we are just a small office, we can all contribute to making Johnson Matthey a more sustainable business in the future”, says Sally Jones, Public Relations Manager and part of the team. “The Sustainability Team at Hatton Garden has come up with some good ideas so far and it is great to see that some of them are already part of the way we run our office.”
