The RoSPA Awards – from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents – help to raise standards in health and safety by recognising organisations that lead the field. So when Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells, Swindon, UK won one of the prestigious RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards for 2007 for the second year in succession, this was quite an accolade.

The Silver Award was presented at a special ceremony in May 2007, during the annual Safety and Health Expo, the UK’s premier health and safety at work exhibition. Terry Escott, RoSPA Board Member, presented the award to Robert Coleman, Process and Engineering Manager for Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells.

Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells have demonstrated how seriously they take health and safety management and are a fine example to many other companies, according to David Rawlins, RoSPA Awards Manager. Their lead provides a positive example.

The RosPA Awards are not just about reducing the number of accidents and cases of ill health at work; they are also about ensuring that organisations have good health and safety management systems in place. They help to reinforce the message that good health and safety is good business and clearly demonstrate an organisation’s commitment to the achievement of high levels of performance in this crucial area.
