Johnson Matthey’s Medical Products business in San Diego, US collaborated with an experienced provider of workplace wellness programmes to run a health risk appraisal programme. Employees were encouraged through workshops and promotional materials to take part in a survey and personal health assessment to identify current health habits and opportunities to reduce their future health risks. A high participation rate of 75% was achieved. Each employee was provided with confidential feedback to assist developing an action plan to improve and maintain their health.
The business received a comprehensive report summarising the profile of health risks in the workforce to help target follow-up wellness and disease management programmes and support employees with health improvement activities. The economic impact of the current profile of health risks resulting from excess health plan claims and lost productivity was also quantified to strengthen the business case for further programme investment.
