EveryChild is Johnson Matthey’s Charity of the Year partner during 2007 and 2008.
During 2007 and 2008 Johnson Matthey is working with EveryChild as its Charity of the Year partner. EveryChild is an international development charity working with the most vulnerable and marginalised children in many of the world’s poorest countries. The charity works to ensure children have basic rights and the chance to realise their potential.
EveryChild’s focus is child separation. The charity works to prevent child separation and find solutions for children who are separated from their families. This involves keeping families together and preventing children from being abandoned to institutions or the street, or being forced to work. For example, EveryChild has established Child Protection Units in police stations in Ethiopia and Malawi where children can get child-friendly legal support and protection. Cases of trafficking and child exploitation are investigated too. Drop-in centres provide access to counselling, basic education and health care, and the charity’s Safe Homes offer refuge to children living on the street.
Many children have no choice but to cope on their own but, where possible, EveryChild tries to return children back to not just the care and safety, but also the love of a family environment. In India, where children who have been trafficked for child labour and end up living on railway platforms, EveryChild’s outreach projects have successfully reunited children with their families.
Our charity partnership with EveryChild has been extremely successful and so far has raised an amazing £45,000. Our employees, as ever, have been very willing to get involved and have raised funds in a variety of ways, including sporting and challenge events, raffles, recycling initiatives and collection tins.
Through the fundraising efforts of Johnson Matthey, EveryChild is able to fund further projects to support vulnerable children around the world.
