Johnson Matthey's Battery Technologies businesses design battery systems for high performance energy storage applications and develop advanced materials for use in current and next generation battery chemistries.

Battery Technologies includes our Battery Materials and Battery Systems businesses and is a part of our New Businesses Division.

Battery Materials

Johnson Matthey Battery Materials researches new battery materials with the aim to improve performance and cost. The materials group also produces, in volume, high quality cathode materials which are used in high performance cells in demanding automotive applications.

Battery Systems

Johnson Matthey Battery Systems designs, develops and supplies battery systems for demanding automotive applications, such as performance hybrids and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Other markets including marine and domestic energy storage for renewables are being explored.

Johnson Matthey also manufactures high volumes of batteries for e-bikes, power tools and other demanding mobile applications.
