Since
1997 Johnson Matthey has provided financial support for underprivileged
black students at the University of Cape Town. At least 9 students have been supported each year in their studies
in Engineering, Commerce and Science. They are provided with a
bursary to use towards living expenses and the costs of their studies
and are given the opportunity to gain valuable work experience
at the Johnson Matthey operations in the country. This programme is a demonstration of Johnson
Matthey’s support
to black empowerment in South Africa and reflects the need to raise
the profile of Johnson Matthey as an employer in order to win the
fierce battle to attract and recruit the best graduates in an increasingly
competitive market.
