I work as a Site Services Director in Germiston, South Africa, although I originally joined Johnson Matthey as Head of HR back in October 2012 after returning from my honeymoon. Just two years later I was given extra responsibilities surrounding security and environmental health and safety functions which resulted in me being made director of three entities: JM South Africa, JM South Africa Salts and JM South Africa Research.

The journey I’ve experienced at JM has been very interesting and rewarding. My progress in such a short time shows this company offers internal opportunities and I feel I can drive a lot of change through my work, which is hugely satisfying. 

Mostly, I was impressed by the products JM produce. I’ll admit, I didn’t know the company before I joined; a friend of mine shared the job spec with me. After some research, I was able to understand what the company does and its goals moving forward. Once here, you realise it’s the products, and the people behind those products, that make JM unique.

It seemed a perfect fit for me because I’m passionate about the environment. If you share the company’s direction and vision, an opportunity is guaranteed to come your way at some stage - just make sure you don’t let it pass you by.
