N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) process

Johnson Matthey have developed a novel DAVY™ process for generating high quality n-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) from methylamine and gamma butyrolactone. Our process uses a non-catalytic reaction of gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) and monomethylamine (MMA) with the separation by distillation of the product to produce solvent quality NMP. NMP technology is a natural combination and progression for both our BDO and amine technologies.
