Enzyme optimisation and process development

Reaction optimisation

Johnson Matthey employs a comprehensive approach to biocatalytic reaction optimisation by systematically studying various aspects of the process, combining expert knowledge with state-of-the-art technology. Initially, we focus on optimizing reaction conditions by screening and refining parameters using both classic methods and Design of Experiments (DoE).

Enzyme kinetics

Following the initial stage of optimising reaction conditions, we conduct enzyme kinetic assay studies and stability analyses on selected enzymes to ensure maximal activity and minimal loadings. These insights reveal the catalyst limitations and informs process-driven tandem enzyme development, including sequence and formulation optimization.

Scale-up demonstration and chiral intermediate production

Finally, we conduct scale-up demonstrations at a multi-gram scale to validate the scalability of the optimized conditions, ensuring practical and effective solutions for the customers' biocatalytic processes.

With the knowledge gained during the reaction optimisation stage and scale-up demonstration, Johnson Matthey is well positioned to support you in the commercial production of chiral intermediates. We manage the technology transfer process with our CMO partner to ensure an easy transition from the lab to commercial scale.
