PGMs: a circular solution for a net zero future
The platinum group metals occur together on the periodic table. They are industrially extremely powerful with applications from automotive sensors and catalytic converters in vehicles, to catalysts for producing pharmaceuticals and other important chemicals.
“We are seeing increasing interest in PGMs for clean energy applications and particularly within hydrogen: platinum in fuel cells and iridium in electrolysers to make green hydrogen." - Marge Ryan, Industrial PGM Market Research Manager.
JM helped build the world’s first circular economy for PGMs and today we’re the world’s largest recycler of these metals. The teams in our refineries are able to recover PGMs from end-of-life products and manufacturing scrap so they can be used again and again.
“We crush these materials and then we mill them, grind them down into powder form and process them to find out the PGM content." -Harem Mehmud, Production Lead in our evaluation team.
Our heritage and expertise in PGMs, and our recycling capability and network, mean that we are well placed to provide a global and sustainable supply of these metals, for our business and for our customers.
“We have an atomic level of understanding of our products that we've developed over our 200-year history. This puts us head and shoulders above the compeition." - Katie Smart, Chemical Products Technical Manager.
