Johnson Matthey sites in Greater Philadelphia have won the 2016 Air Quality Award from the Air Quality Partnership.

The judges were particularly impressed by Johnson Matthey's tough targets for achieving our Sustainability 2017 Vision, our eagerness to raise public awareness about air quality through our advocacy for tougher emissions legislation and our sponsorship of local cycling events and running teams.

"We were nominated for this award after our involvement in the local section of the Transportation Management Association of Chester County (TMACC) National Bike Challenge," said Senior Technical Program Manager, Howard Hess. "From there, we were able to raise their awareness of how Johnson Matthey is a positive role model in the community and the world, promoting sustainability and improving the environment."Johnson Matthey has been an active participant in the National Bike Challenge for the past four years. The program has grown significantly from 15 riders registered in 2012 to over 300 riders registered in 2015, and is already expanding for this year's challenge."Last year, JM was once again awarded first place in TMACC's local bike challenge, and placed 7th nationally out of 1552 companies,\" said Howard. In the five months of the National Bike Challenge (from May to September 2015) Johnson Matthey logged over 134,000 miles, saving over 31 tons of CO2 from being emitted. Roughly a quarter of the miles logged were due to transport, where bikes were used to replace cars for commuting. In order to promote this initiative, Johnson Matthey has installed bike racks, lockers and showers in several of the facilities.
