Johnson Matthey retains position in key sustainability rankings

Johnson Matthey’s MSCI ESG rating and inclusion in Ethibel Sustainability Index confirms the company is on the right track.

In March Johnson Matthey received an 'AAA' MSCI ESG (environment, social and governance) rating for the fifth year in a row, the highest possible distinction, placing us above specialty chemicals industry peers. Scores are based upon a robust set of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) factors and assess a company's risk and performance against these.

The company was also reconfirmed as a constituent of the Ethibel Sustainability Index Excellence Europe, with effect from 20th March 2017.

Both external stakeholder assessment schemes identify the companies that are playing a pioneering role in sustainability in their industries, based on information available in the public domain.

Building on success

The news comes as we reflect on the successes of our Sustainability 2017 vision, which has underpinned our strategy for the past ten years by focusing on operational, environmental and health and safety performance.

Sean Axon, Group Sustainability Director, Johnson Matthey said: "This is great news, and confirmation of our continuing commitment to sustainability. It reinforces that we are recognised as a sector leader in terms of Corporate Social Responsibility. It also signals the importance Johnson Matthey attaches to growing its business in compliance with other, non-financial criteria such as sustainability, environmental responsibility and community investment."
