Honouring the work of our people at our first global awards ceremony

To mark the end of our 200th year, we hosted an internal awards ceremony to honour the incredible work and achievements of several JM employees from across the globe.

Every year we acknowledge and recognise some of the best examples of our people applying JM's values and vision for a cleaner, healthier world in their everyday work. Named the JM200 Awards, in tribute of our 200th milestone year, last week’s celebration at the Royal Institution in London was the first time that finalists have been brought together to celebrate as one at a designated venue.

The event will become a recognised and anticipated annual staple in the JM calendar for years to come. Chief Executive, Robert MacLeod, said: "It's wonderful to see our world-leading science, ways of working and our people being given the platform to showcase the great work they have been doing. No matter who walks away with the trophy, all of those who have been nominated or shortlisted deserve the highest levels of recognition."

The event was attended by more than 100 guests behind the shortlisted projects that received standout praise over the last year. Judges picked the global winners across seven categories, including Inventor Recognition, Commercial Excellence and Collaboration.

Among the guests were employees from Mexico, South Africa, the USA and China, who were flown in and accommodated by JM. Also joining the celebration was special guest speaker Chris Barnard, who retired from the company some years ago and is one of the scientists behind our ground-breaking Carboplatin research. In his speech, Chris reinforced the importance of collaboration, in addition to staying nimble and quick-thinking despite adversity.

One of the highlights of the night was the Chief Executive's Award for Outstanding Employee Contribution; a new award which encapsulates our tradition of engaging, developing and recognising the best of our people. Winner, Dave Blundell, commented, “I'm honoured to have my contribution at JM recognised by my peers. It's thrilling to have joined the JM hall of fame and this award really crystallises for me what this year has been all about."

Following the awards ceremony, guests had the opportunity to connect with their fellow colleagues from around the world while enjoying the food and drinks reception, before engaging in the live science experiments towards the end of the evening.

Chief Executive Robert MacLeod thanked all in attendance for their incredible work over the last year and emphasised how much JM values its people, saying: “We couldn't do it without you."
