Johnson Matthey recognised by Dow Jones Sustainability Index
24 November 2020
Johnson Matthey, a global leader in sustainable technologies, has been recognised in the annual Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for companies in Europe.
Launched in 1999, DJSI is a leading independent assessment of a company’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance globally and was among the very first set of global indices to track the largest and leading sustainability driven publicly listed companies based on long term economic and ESG factors. Through the assessments led by S&P Global they measure all aspects of sustainability performance, including innovation management, climate strategy, environmental management, health and safety and human capital development.
JM has a strong heritage in sustainability; it is an integral part of its strategy and governance. Last year, almost 86% of sales came from products and services that positively contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and make the world a cleaner and healthier place.
JM is also developing new sustainable technologies at the heart of solutions that address climate change. These include our next generation battery cathode materials for electric cars, our innovative processes to produce clean hydrogen and fuel cells for zero emission power.
Ron Gerrard, Chief Environment, Health, Safety and Operations Officer, Johnson Matthey, commented:
“We’re proud and delighted to be included in the DJSI Europe in 2020 for the first time. Inclusion in the DJSI Europe really recognises our continued development and commitment over many years to all aspects of sustainability, which is at the heart of our future business strategy.”Manjit Jus, Global Head of ESG Research and Data, S&P Global added:
“We congratulate Johnson Matthey for being included in the DJSI Europe. A DJSI distinction is a reflection of being a sustainability leader in your industry. With a record number of companies participating in the 2020 Corporate Sustainability Assessment and more stringent rules for inclusion this year, this sets your company apart and rewards your continued commitment to people and planet."
