JM accredited as a Living Wage Employer in the UK
11 February 2021
Johnson Matthey has today been accredited as a Living Wage Employer in the UK, joining other well known brands including Nationwide and Google.
In becoming accredited as a real Living Wage employer in the UK Johnson Matthey joins around 40% of companies in the FTSE 100 who have made the Living Wage commitment.
This Living Wage commitment will see everyone working at Johnson Matthey’s UK sites receive a minimum hourly wage of £9.50 in the UK or £10.85 in London. Both rates are significantly higher than the government minimum for over 25s, which currently stands at £8.72 per hour.
The real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum. Since 2011 the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 250,000 people and put over £1.3 billion extra into the pockets of low paid workers.
Annette Kelleher, Chief HR Officer, commented:
“I’m very pleased and proud that Johnson Matthey has been accredited as a Living Wage Employer. This reflects our values and our belief that doing the right thing and ensuring that all our colleagues are appreciated is important. We are delighted to be supporting the UK Living Wage Foundation’s goal of ensuring everyone is paid a fair wage.”
