OROBRAZE™ filler metals
OROBRAZETM filler metals
Gold-copper OROBRAZETM filler metals show good wetting on Fe, Ni, Co, Ta, Nb and W. In general, these high purity filler metals show good resistance to oxidation at elevated temperatures and excellent corrosion resistance in many chemical environments. They are suitable for use in the fabrication of vacuum tube / thermionic valve devices as both gold and copper have low vapour pressures under the elevated temperature and levels of vacuum seen in such items. And they can be manufactured such that they contain only minimum levels of volatile elements, and can therefore be supplied to meet the requirements of EN 1044 - V1 grade (vacuum grade 1 materials).
They can produce ductile joints without excessive inter-alloying/erosion of the parent metals - advantageous when brazing thin walled structures. They form small radius smooth fillets at the joint edges.
All the gold-copper OROBRAZE filler metals have relatively short melting ranges and free flowing characteristics, with varying melting ranges allowing their use in step brazing operations. Typical joint gaps are between 0.025-0.1mm depending on parent materials and joint configuration.
Gold-nickel OROBRAZE filler metals show good high temperature strength (up to 600˚C), resistance to oxidation, and resistance to crevice corrosion on stainless steel. They produce small, exceptionally smooth fillets they produce at the joint edges that do not disturb the aerodynamic gas flow. So it is no surprise that they are often used in the aerospace industry, and we supply them according to Rolls-Royce (MSRR 9500) specification.
They are suitable for vacuum furnace brazing, as it contains no volatile elements, as well as for brazing components that operate at elevated temperatures in ultra high vacuum, such as vacuum tube devices. They are also suitable for step brazing in complex assemblies.
Typical joint gaps are in the range of 0.025-0.1mm for OROBRAZE 950 and 0.075-0.2mm for OROBRAZE 990, depending on parent metals, joint configuration and brazing methods.

Orobraze™ 950 is a high purity gold bearing brazing filler metal. It is extensively used in aerospace components and thermionic valve / vacuum tube devices as well as in other specialised applications.
Orobraze™ 950 exhibits excellent high temperature strength up to 500˚C and oxidation resistance up to 800°C. Because of the alloy's elevated temperature properties it is used extensively in the manufacture of components required to operate at high temperature, for example turbojet aero-engine components. The alloy produces small exceptionally smooth fillets at the joint edges that do not disturb the aerodynamic gas flow in aero-engine components.
Orobraze™ 950 is suitable for vacuum furnace brazing, as it contains no volatile elements. Grade 1 Orobraze™ 950 has impurity levels which make it suitable for brazing components that operate at elevated temperatures in ultra high vacuum, such as vacuum tube devices. It is also suitable for step brazing in complex assemblies.
Orobraze™ 950 also offers good corrosion resistance in many chemical environments and its joints are resistant to interfacial crevice corrosion on stainless steels in aqueous service environments. These properties have been put to use in the paper making industries for example. Typical joint gaps are in the range of 0.025-0.1mm depending on parent metals, joint configuration and brazing methods.AMS/AWS A5.8
