Fuelling progress with sustainable methanol

As industries transition to cleaner energy, sustainable methanol, or ‘green’ methanol, is emerging as a critical low-carbon fuel in the energy transition.

Most commonly produced through the gasification of waste or biomass (bio-methanol), or by power-to-X processes using captured CO2 and electrolytic hydrogen (e-methanol), sustainable methanol will be vital in reducing emissions for hard-to-abate sectors like shipping, aviation, automotive and heavy transport.

Our pathways to sustainable methanol production

JM offers three cutting-edge, distinct, and reliable technology pathways to help you produce sustainable methanol safely and efficiently, whatever the unique needs of your project.

eMERALD™ CO2 to methanol

JM’s eMERALD™ e-methanol technology has been commercially available since 2011 . By converting captured CO₂ into methanol, eMERALDTM allows you to make e-methanol for longer with fewer interruptions, lower costs, and greater reliability overall reducing the levelised cost of methanol production by 9%.

Biomass to methanol

JM’s biomass to methanol technology refines syngas - generated from biomass gasification - into high-purity biomethanol using our advanced methanol synthesis technology. Our efficient synthesis loop maximises conversion rates, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions.

CIRCULAR™ waste to methanol

At JM, we have teamed up with NextChem's MyRechemical to license a waste to methanol solution that combines NextChem’s waste to chemical technology with our proven methanol synthesis technology and high-performance catalysts. This high-efficiency process uses municipal solid waste that cannot be mechanically recycled as the feedstock thus transforming an undesirable waste product into a valuable sustainable alternative fuel.
