Enzyme discovery
Johnson Matthey continuously improves the enzyme collection by maximizing the diversity through various enzyme discovery approaches. The two main methods used to discover and develop the right enzyme for your application are through metagenomics and in-silico design. Enzyme discovery has played a critical role in the development and improvement of our enzyme collection to meet various application needs.
Metagenomics
Metagenomics enables access to previously uncharacterised proteins from unculturable microbes, vastly aiding biocatalyst discovery. We leverage our in-house metagenomic capabilities as well as external collaborations to recruit new enzymes that later are subjected to rigorous testing to ensure they meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.

In-silico design
For the in silico approach, our customers provide us with their transformation of interest. Using this information and our internal sequence-activity database, our team utilises state-of-the-art computational methods, leveraging the power of algorithms and data analysis to narrow down a vast pool of potential enzyme candidates. Our enzyme candidates come from various collaborations and our proprietary databases.
