Johnson Matthey is a global leader in sustainable technologies. We apply our cutting-edge science to create solutions with our customers that make a real difference to the world around us. We’ve been leaders in our field for more than 200 years. And now, with climate change, energy supply and resource scarcity high on the agenda, this work is more critical than ever.

Our graduate scheme provides an extraordinary opportunity to play a key role in developing sustainable solutions to catalyse the net zero transition. Specifically, by driving down transport emissions, decarbonising the energy and chemical industries and creating a circular economy.

Graduate programme FAQs

What does LEAD mean?

Launching

JM’s strategy is ‘play to win’, so for your first rotation we will set you up for success by matching you with a role that fits with your background and experience and is high priority for the business.

These projects are nine months long and will launch you from academia to industry via one of three functions: operations/engineering, commercial, and science.

Expanding

Your second rotation will be in a different part of JM and ten months in duration. This may be in your home country or you may begin reporting to a manager in another region. While we encourage you to build on experience from past rotations, rotation two is a great opportunity to try something new and expand your understanding of the way our organisation works together across the different functions.

At JM, we encourage you to own your career, so you will have a number of projects to choose from across the business. Alternatively, you can work with a manager to find a challenging and impactful project yourselves.

Accelerating

Your third rotation will be 12-months long and will accelerate you into your career as a future global leader. You may embark on an international assignment, where you’ll live and work in another country. You might also choose a role that is global in nature, requiring travel and support on the ground throughout the duration.

Your final project will give you the opportunity to build on what you have learned so far and prepare you for whichever role or function you ultimately choose to land in.

Driving your career at JM

Across the three rotations will be specific global development events, both virtual and face-to-face. This will give you the opportunity to improve your skills, build global networks and understand the cultural differences when working across borders.

Having completed your third rotation, you will have broad and valuable experience which will support you in driving your career in whichever direction you choose to go in JM.

We guarantee a permanent role for all of our graduates, and offer ongoing support, career conversations, and alumni events well beyond your first years in JM.
