Achieve net zero by 2040
Achieve net zero by 2040
Our products have huge potential to help our customers achieve their net zero ambitions. At the same time, we also have a responsibility to address our own greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint. That’s why we have set a commitment to reach net zero by 2040 and in April 2021 we signed up to the UN Global Compact’s Business Ambition for 1.5°C. This commitment reflects our recognition of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) science on climate change. It also supports our earlier climate actions, including signing the Paris Climate Pledge to keep the global temperature rise below 2°C and our commitment to the UN SDGs, including UN SDG13 (climate action).
Our long-term target of net zero by 2040 has been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) under their net zero standard. Having confirmed our precise roadmaps to 2030, we are working to identify and develop the full range of solutions we will implement to achieve net zero by 2040, indicated on our refreshed net zero roadmap below.
JM believes that we should decarbonise the economy whilst ensuring that no one is left or pushed behind. Being as fair and inclusive as possible to everyone affected will increase the chances of long term success and sustainability of the energy transition.
Net zero is the reduction of absolute GHG emissions by 90% or more, with any remaining emissions neturalised through carbon offsets.
