How hydrogen represents a necessity and an opportunity
Matthew Harwood, Chief Strategy Officer at Johnson Matthey, explains how the UK can become a world leader in developing hydrogen energy systems and markets.
ExploreCare and use of laboratory apparatus
Correctly caring for your precious metal apparatus will provide a service life unrivalled by another other material.
ExploreARGO-BRAZE™ filler metals
ARGO-BRAZE™ products are most commonly used for brazing cemented tungsten carbide and tungsten carbide faced PCD tips.
ExplorePGM Platinum
Platinum is used in a wide variety of applications with platinum jewellery accounting for almost a quarter of annual platinum demand, but the largest use is in automotive catalytic converters..
ExploreSIL-FOS filler metals
SIL-FOS™ filler metals are recommended for the fluxless brazing of copper.
ExploreDaniel Atkinson
See what Daniel Atkinson has to say about their time at JM and what they think about the company.
ExploreAnalysis of catalysts
Our highly trained technicians and scientists investigate weight loss, gas flow distribution and contamination sources of gauzes. Using world class analytical techniques we then refine new gauze designs to reduce metal losses in future campaigns.

ExploreButanediol BDO THF GBL DMS process, Hydrogenolysis and Esterification technology
Johnson Matthey is the leading technology provider for butanediol plants worldwide. The DAVY™ butanediol process can produce in a single reaction train, varying ratios of three products; 1,4 butanediol (BDO), tetrahydrofuran (THF), Di-methyl succinate (DMS) and gamma butyrolactone (GBL). Hydrogenolysis is a reaction where hydrogen is added to a compound and breaks that compound’s bonds, forming two molecules as a result. Johnson Matthey's DAVY™ hydrogenolysis technology reacts hydrogen gas (H2) with a vapour-phase carbonyl compound. Esters are organic compounds characterized by the RCOOR’ functional group, and are most commonly derived from the reaction of carboxylic acids with alcohols.
ExploreOlefin purification catalysts
We can provide a full range of products to ensure an economic purification solution.
ExploreMonoethylene glycol (MEG) process
Our new process using proprietary catalyst developed by Johnson Matthey and Eastman enables the production of MEG from methanol via formaldehyde. This offers a unique and exciting opportunity for methanol and/or formaldehyde producers who are interested in diversifying their product slate.
ExploreDiesel particulate filter
Mobile emission controls: a diesel particulate filter (DPF) removes particulate matter from diesel exhaust by physical filtration.
ExploreFuel processor catalysts
The HIFUEL® catalyst range is designed specifically for distributed hydrogen generation systems such as those used in reformate fuel cell applications.
ExploreStandard Tier 4 final compliant systems
Clean air solutions: our SCRT® technology combines the diesel particulate filter system, incorporating an oxidation catalyst, to control CO, HC and PM, and a SCR catalyst to reduce NOx emissions.
ExploreSTOP-FLO brazing products
STOP-FLO™ No.1 and STOP-FLO No.2 are two stop-off or ‘parting’ compounds formulated to prevent the flow and wetting of molten brazing filler metal across the surface of a component during the brazing process.
